Gateway Church began as St. Peters Wesleyan Church in the late 1970’s when several members of the Overland Wesleyan Church in St. Louis felt a burden to plant a church in St. Charles County. Several of the church members lived in the St. Peters area and they recognized the need to have a church in an area that was starting to grow rapidly as young families began to move into the area at an incredible rate. In 1980 the congregation purchased the land we are currently on.
Over the next several years, Gateway Church saw steady growth. They couldn’t afford to build a church building, so they met in several locations around the community, including the facilities at the St. Peters Golf Course and several public schools in the area.
In the late 1980’s construction on the current building was begun. In 2001 our pastor, Steve Colaw came to St. Peters Wesleyan and in 2013 we changed our name and became Gateway Church. We love St. Charles County are are thrilled that God is using Gateway Church to create a community of transformed lives here in the St. Louis area.
